Water Authority board passes resolution supporting QSA-related legislative action

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors passed a resolution Thursday supporting legislation critical to implementing the proposed Quantification Settlement Agreement (QSA). The resolution supports legislative appropriation of $200 million in Proposition 50 funds for the QSA and supports legislative relief from California’s Fully Protected Species statutes.

Sandra L. Kerl Finalist for Water Authority GM Post

The Board officers of the San Diego County Water Authority announced today that they are negotiating contract terms with Sandra L. Kerl to be the next general manager of the region’s wholesale water agency, following a months-long national search. Water Authority elects new officers to board of directors

By a unanimous vote, the San Diego County Water Authority board of directors Thursday elected its new chairman, vice chairman and secretary.

Bernie Rhinerson, of San Diego was elected chairman. James Bond, of Encinitas was elected vice chairman and George Loveland, of San Diego, was elected secretary. The new officers begin two-year terms on Jan. 1, 2003.

Proposals Sought for Potential Energy Storage Facility after Successful Interest Solicitation

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors today authorized the Water Authority, in conjunction with the City of San Diego, to begin seeking detailed proposals for a potential energy storage facility at San Vicente Reservoir. The project could help ease pressure on electric grids by producing locally generated renewable energy on demand, and also lessen upward pressure on water rates by providing a new source of revenue. County Water Authority Board Approves QSA Term Sheet

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today approved the Quantification Settlement Agreement (QSA) term sheet that includes revisions to the 1998 Imperial Irrigation District – San Diego County Water Authority water transfer agreement. The water transfer agreement will result in a new, more reliable and diversified imported water supply for San Diego with the delivery from IID of one million acre-feet of water to San Diego over the first 15 years of the 75-year agreement.

San Diego County Water Authority Board Endorses Proposition 50

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors has endorsed Proposition 50, the $3.4 billion state bond initiative that would provide funds to address economic and environmental concerns for the San Diego – Imperial County water transfer through Senate Bill 482 and Assembly Bill 1473. California voters will decide on this ballot initiative on November 5, 2002.

Water Authority Board Approves Conservation Awareness Campaign

Mark Weston Elected Chair of Water Authority’s Board of Directors

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors today elected new officers to lead the agency’s Board for the next two years, beginning Oct. 1.

Mark Weston, who represents the city of Poway on the Water Authority’s Board, will serve as chair. Mark Muir, representing the San Dieguito Water District, will serve as vice chair. New Secretary Jim Madaffer is a Board representative from the city of San Diego.

Water Authority General Manager Maureen A. Stapleton Retires after 23 Years

Maureen A. Stapleton, general manager of the San Diego County Water Authority, informed the agency’s Board of Directors today of her decision to retire from the agency. “The positive impact of Maureen’s leadership of the Water Authority and management of this region’s water supply cannot be overstated,” said Jim Madaffer, chair of the Water Authority’s Board of Directors. “She has also been an important leader in our civic affairs for three decades and has dedicated countless hours to the betterment of our entire region.
