The San Diego County Water Authority on Monday petitioned California’s highest court to review an issue of statewide significance – whether the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California may charge its transportation-only customers costs associated with a service those customers do not purchase.  Specifically, the petition asks the Supreme Court to review whether MWD may include in the transportation rates it charges the Water Authority to wheel its conserved Colorado River water, MWD’s unrelated State Water Project supply costs. Water Authority board approves $1.338 billion budget for fiscal years 2006 and 2007

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today approved a $1.338 billion budget for fiscal years 2006 and 2007 that funds the agency’s operations and capital improvements. The Water Authority moved to a multiyear budgeting process for the 2004 and 2005 fiscal years to provide enhanced fiscal management of its many multiyear projects and long-range planning.

Water Authority Hires Public Affairs Representative for Imperial Valley

The San Diego County Water Authority has hired longtime Imperial Valley journalist Darren Simon to serve as its senior public affairs representative in Imperial Valley.

Simon, a reporter for the Imperial Valley Press for 14 years, has spent the past two years covering the Imperial Irrigation District. He will work part time for the Water Authority through the end of the year and begin working full time January 2.

Water Authority Secures Transfers of Conserved Colorado River Water Through 2047

The San Diego region will benefit from a historic water conservation-and-transfer agreement with the Imperial Irrigation District at least through 2047 after the San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors took action Thursday to ensure deliveries of those supplies for an additional decade. The Board voted unanimously to extend an Exchange Agreement with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California by 10 years, requiring MWD to continue transporting conserved IID water to San Diego County through 2047. Water Authority Applauds Renewed State Commitment to Restoring the Salton Sea

The San Diego County Water Authority today commended the State Water Resources Control Board for setting annual milestones for state restoration activities at the Salton Sea and a Dec. 31, 2022, deadline for the state to deliver long-term Salton Sea restoration plans. Water Authority Opens Imperial Valley Outreach Office

The San Diego County Water Authority formally opened its new outreach office in El Centro today with an open house and reception. The office will be staffed by Grace Sesma, Water Authority public affairs representative and local resident. It will be used to facilitate dialogue, hold meetings and provide local access to the Water Authority in Imperial County.

Water Authority Board Approves $1.65 Billion Budget for Fiscal Years 2010 and 2011

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors today approved a $1.65 billion, two-year budget to fund water purchases, debt service, capital improvements and Water Authority operations from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2011.

CA Supreme Court denies Water Authority appeal on preferential rights

The San Diego County Water Authority will continue to aggressively pursue a diversified water supply portfolio in light of today’s State Supreme Court ruling denying its appeal on preferential rights. The courts action ends the Water Authority’s legal challenge of the Metropolitan Water District’s antiquated system of water supply allocations that places San Diego’s water reliability in jeopardy in times of water shortages.

New Incentive Available for Sustainable Landscape Projects

The San Diego Sustainable Landscapes Program partnership is offering a new grant-funded financial incentive for qualified participants who upgrade residential turf lawns to landscapes that provide multiple environmental benefits. Incentive recipients are required to comply with a set of rigorous design criteria that includes water-efficient plants and irrigation equipment, rainwater capture and detention features, and soil amendments to improve water efficiency. Qualified applicants can receive up to $1.75 per square foot toward eligible project costs for upgrading 500 to 3,000 square feet of existing turf areas.
