First water delivery consummates historic water transfer

Federal officials have given the final clearance to begin the historic transfer of water from the Imperial Irrigation District to the San Diego County Water Authority, officials with the Water Authority said Thursday. With the final clearance in hand, the first 10,000 acre-feet of water from the historic transfer agreement will flow into San Diego County by the end of December.

The initial delivery of 10,000 acre-feet of water marks the beginning of the largest agriculture to urban water transfer in U.S. history.

Four agencies sign historic Colorado River deal

After eight years of negotiations, representatives from the San Diego County Water Authority and three water agencies met in Los Angeles today to sign documents required to implement the Quantification Settlement Agreement, an accord that fundamentally changes the way Colorado River water is distributed and used in California. Officials from the San Diego County Water Authority, Imperial Irrigation District, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Coachella Valley Water District and state and federal governments signed agreements that execute the landmark agreement.

In a historic action culminating more than a decade of planning and years of negotiations, the San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today unanimously approved the Quantification Settlement Agreement, an accord that fundamentally changes the way Colorado River water is distributed and used in California.

Water Authority to continue study of water treatment capacity enhancement

In a move to continue addressing the need for additional water treatment capacity for the San Diego region, the San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today authorized the continued planning of a new water treatment plant. As part of the overall planning process, the board approved a contract with Helix Environmental Planning, Inc. for up to $360,000 for environmental support services to ensure compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act.
