Damages Phase of Trial Challenging MWD Rates Starts March 30

The second phase of the San Diego County Water Authority’s landmark rate case against the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California starts Monday, March 30, nearly one year after the Water Authority won the first phase with a court ruling that rates set by MWD violate several provisions of California law.

Water Authority Recommends Regional Water-Use Reduction Strategies

New regional drought-response measures recommended by the San Diego County Water Authority’s staff would assist local water agencies in meeting state mandated water-use reduction targets by restricting watering of ornamental landscapes to two days a week and boosting regional conservation and outreach efforts by $1 million.

MWD Approves 15 Percent Cuts to Water Supplies for San Diego County

Facing unprecedented drought conditions, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s board of directors on Tuesday approved a 15 percent water supply cutback to the San Diego County Water Authority and its other customers starting July 1. That decision is one of several important actions in coming weeks that will impact the San Diego region’s water supplies and conservation targets over the next year.

Water Authority Reinstates Water Conservation Rebates for Residents

To help more residents prepare for the start of mandatory water use restrictions in many parts of the region, the San Diego County Water Authority is providing $450,000 to reinstate a water conservation rebate program. The rebates will be available now through June 30 or until funding runs out.

Water Authority to Cut Water Deliveries to Local Agencies by 8 Percent

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors, responding to reduced water supplies caused by regulatory restrictions on water deliveries from Northern California, lingering drought, and cutbacks from the San Diego region’s main water supplier, today approved cutting water deliveries to its member retail water agencies by eight percent effective July 1.

Metropolitan Water District Approves Water Supply Cutbacks, Significant Rate Hike

In response to continuing drought conditions and regulatory restrictions on water supplies from Northern California, water supply deliveries from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to the San Diego County Water Authority will be reduced by 13 percent starting July 1.

As a result of actions taken Tuesday by MWD’s board of directors, San Diego County residents and businesses will face mandatory water use restrictions designed to ensure the region does not exceed its water supply allocation from MWD.

Judge Awards $8.9 Million in Attorneys’ Fees to Water Authority in MWD Rate Case

After losing a landmark judgment in 2015, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California must pay $8.9 million in attorneys’ fees to the San Diego County Water Authority, a San Francisco Superior Court judge ruled Thursday. As the prevailing party, the Water Authority is entitled to its attorneys’ fees, according to the court order; a previous decision awarded the Water Authority more than $320,000 in court costs.
