State Water Project Allocations Remain Unchanged Despite Recent Storms

The chair of the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors said today’s state Department of Water Resources announcement that State Water Project deliveries will not increase despite recent rain and snow means the likelihood of water supply shortages this year is growing stronger.

Water Authority Urges Residents and Businesses to Turn Off Irrigation Systems

The San Diego County Water Authority is calling on all residents and businesses to immediately shut off irrigations systems to conserve water. Rain is forecast for the San Diego region beginning as early as late tonight, continuing periodically into next week. Irrigation systems can remain off for a minimum of a week to 10 days after a rainfall and longer if significant precipitation occurs.

Water Authority Seeks Pre-Trial Decision Declaring MWD’s ‘Rate Structure Integrity’ Clause Illegal and Unenforceable

The San Diego County Water Authority on Friday asked a San Francisco Superior Court judge to declare illegal and unenforceable contract language used by the Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to punish the Water Authority for challenging the legality of MWD’s water rates. In its motion for summary judgment, the Water Authority is asking Superior Court Judge Curtis E.A. Karnow to rule on the matter before the rest of its case challenging MWD’s 2011-2014 water rates goes to trial December 17. 

Metropolitan Water District to Begin Fluoridation of Treated Water Supplies

Beginning Oct. 29, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will join a majority of the nation's public water suppliers in adding fluoride to its treated water supplies. Metropolitan's treated water deliveries to San Diego County will be fluoridated starting Dec. 3 when fluoridation begins at the Skinner water treatment plant. Approximately half of the treated water used in the county comes from Metropolitan's Skinner plant in southern Riverside County.

Federal judge orders massive cut in water supply deliveries from the Bay Delta

Today in Fresno, U. S. District Court Judge Oliver W. Wanger announced a series of severe restrictions on the operations of the massive pumps that supply water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to 25 million Californians (about two-thirds of all Californians), including 3 million residents of San Diego County, to protect threatened fish in the Bay-Delta.

Judge Limits MWD’s Discovery Demands in Litigation Challenging its Rates

A San Francisco Superior Court judge on Tuesday agreed with most of the discovery limits proposed by the San Diego County Water Authority, denying the majority of a motion to compel filed by the Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.  Tuesday’s order followed a court hearing held last Friday in San Francisco on MWD’s motion.
