The Water Authority and SDG&E Offer Free Workshop for Small Businesses

Small-business professionals can learn how to benefit from water- and energy-efficiency programs offered by the San Diego County Water Authority and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) from 8 a.m. to noon on Nov. 19.  The free event is at SDG&E’s Energy Innovation Center, 4760 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., San Diego, CA.

During the workshop, the Water Authority and SDG&E will explain rebates, incentives, upgrades and technologies for energy and water savings available to businesses.

Rainy Season Offers a Chance to Save Money by Trimming Outdoor Water Use

As summer’s heat fades, the San Diego County Water Authority encourages residents to assess their outdoor watering needs and adjust their irrigation systems to reduce water waste. The end of daylight saving time on Nov. 4 offers homeowners, gardeners, landscape contractors and facility managers a reminder that plants and lawns don’t need as much water during the winter months.

San Diego County Water Authority Shares “Partners in Conservation” Award

A landmark Colorado River study that the San Diego County Water Authority helped develop was honored Thursday by the U.S. Department of Interior. Interior Deputy Secretary David Hayes presented California and its Colorado River water contractors —  in partnership with six other states that tap the river —  with the prestigious “Partners in Conservation Award” for completing the Colorado River Basin Supply and Demand Study.

Water Authority Prepares to Start Vital Pipeline Relining Project

In August, the San Diego County Water Authority will begin relining more than three miles of large-diameter water pipeline underneath parts of Mission Trails Regional Park and several major streets in eastern San Diego and western La Mesa. The project is part of a $786 million effort, over multiple decades, to extend the service life of 82 miles of pipelines in San Diego County that deliver the majority of the region’s water supply.

Water Authority Announces Proposed Water Rates for 2013

Driven by rate increases from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and the Water Authority’s investments in more reliable water supplies and infrastructure projects, the San Diego County Water Authority staff Wednesday proposed an “all-in” 9.6 percent increase in the cost of untreated water purchased by its 24 member agencies in 2013.  The Water Authority Board of Directors is scheduled to hold a public hearing and vote on the proposal at its June 28, 2012 meeting.

Water Purchase Agreement for Seawater Desalination Nearing Completion

At a special meeting of the Water Authority Board of Directors today, Water Authority staff announced that a proposed 30-year Water Purchase Agreement with Poseidon Resources to purchase desalinated seawater will be released to the public later this month.  The release will open a 60-day public review period, and the public will be invited to provide comments at two special public meetings and at regularly scheduled meetings of the Water Authority’s Board of Directors before the Board takes action on the agreement this fall.
