Board Adopts Long-Term Plans for Water Facilities and Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors on Thursday unanimously adopted an updated water facilities master plan and a Climate Action Plan, along with an environmental analysis of the two long-range strategies. The package will serve as a roadmap through 2035 for future capital projects and responding to climate change as it relates to activities within the agency.

Help the San Diego Region Save Water During Fix a Leak Week

As California moves further into a third consecutive dry year, the San Diego County Water Authority and its member agencies encourage residents and businesses to take water-saving actions during national Fix a Leak Week, March 17-23.

While household leaks may seem minor, they waste more than 1 trillion gallons a year nationwide, equivalent to the annual household water use of more than 11 million homes, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which sponsors the annual anti-leak campaign.

Water Authority Prevails in Public Records Lawsuit Against Eastern Municipal Water District

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday ruled that a Public Records Act lawsuit brought by the San Diego County Water Authority against the Eastern Municipal Water District compelled the Riverside water agency to release records and that it must conduct an additional search for records responsive to the Water Authority’s request.  The judge’s ruling means the Water Authority is the prevailing party in the litigation and is entitled to recovery of its attorney’s fees. 

Final Ruling: Water Authority Wins Landmark Rate Litigation Against Metropolitan Water District

A final court ruling issued late Thursday afternoon says the San Diego County Water Authority has prevailed in the first phase of historic rate litigation against the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The statement of decision by San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Curtis E. A. Karnow affirmed his Feb. 25 tentative ruling in the Water Authority’s favor.

The litigation could save the San Diego region $2 billion in overcharges created by MWD’s illegal rates over 45 years.

Water Authority Reduces Capital Spending, Lowers Budget for Fiscal Year 2015

The San Diego County Water Authority today cut its current two-year budget by $37 million, or 2.5 percent, as part of its ongoing effort to reduce costs, adopt efficiencies and leverage partnerships while maintaining critical programs. It was the first time in at least a decade that the agency has de-appropriated money during a budget cycle because of savings in its Capital Improvement Program.

Free Summer Classes Offered for Yard Makeovers

The San Diego County Water Authority is sponsoring free classes around the region this summer to help homeowners adopt WaterSmart landscaping practices by replacing water-guzzling turf with low-water-use plants. They kick off with a preview class at 1:30 p.m., June 22 at the garden pavilion stage of the San Diego County Fair. The landscaping event is free with fair admission.
