Release of Bay-Delta Documents Highlights Need for Cost-Effective Plan
The public release of thousands of pages of documents about fixing the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta underscores the need for cost-effective and attainable solutions, the San Diego County Water Authority said Monday. About 20 percent of the San Diego region’s water supplies flow through the Bay-Delta, the hub of the state’s water supply system which has become a less reliable water source in recent years as the ecosystem has deteriorated.
U-T San Diego and Water Authority Launch Weekly WaterSmart Tips to Help Region Conserve
The San Diego County Water Authority and U-T San Diego are partnering to provide timely advice about water conservation every Saturday in the Home & Garden section of the newspaper. Starting on Feb. 22, the U-T will publish “Be WaterSmart” tips to help San Diego County residents stretch the region’s water supplies.
Free WaterSmart Landscape Makeover Workshop Series Begins in March
Starting in March, the San Diego County Water Authority is sponsoring a new series of free classes around the region to help residents turn conventional yards into WaterSmart landscaping showcases.
The WaterSmart Landscape Makeover Workshop Series, made possible in part by grants from the Hans & Margaret Doe Charitable Trust and the state Department of Water Resources, will be held at six locations countywide.

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors is accelerating its schedule to address unprecedented drought conditions in California. The Board will consider urging increased voluntary water conservation at a special meeting on Feb. 13.
The Water Authority staff is recommending a stepped-up drought response by activating the agency’s Water Shortage and Drought Response Plan to help preserve stored water reserves in Southern California and assist in managing the potential long-term impacts of the state’s water crisis.
