National Weather Service forecasters predict rainfall for the San Diego region beginning Saturday, December 13 through Wednesday, December 17. The San Diego County Water Authority is urging residents, businesses and public agencies to immediately shut off landscape watering systems to conserve water. Irrigation systems can be turned off for several days following storms bringing measurable amounts of rain, and up to a week or more following heavy or prolonged storms.

Water Authority Reminds Region to Give Irrigation Systems a Break During Wet Weather

With the first measurable rainfall of the season hitting many parts of the region today, the San Diego County Water Authority is reminding residents, businesses and public agencies to temporarily shut off landscape watering systems during wet weather this fall and winter. Irrigation systems can be turned off for several days following storms bringing measurable amounts of rain and up to a week or more following a heavy storms.

San Diego County Faces Second Straight Year of Water Shortages, Water Use Restrictions

Taking into account continued cutbacks to the region’s imported water supplies, the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors voted today to continue current limits on water deliveries to its 24 member retail agencies through June 2011. The Board also approved remaining in a Level 2 “Drought Alert” condition for a second straight year, which enables member agencies to keep water use restrictions and other mandatory conservation measures in place.

Nation’s Largest Seawater Desalination Plant Enhances Water Supply Reliability for San Diego County

Operations are under way at the nation’s largest and most technologically advanced seawater desalination plant, which was dedicated today by more than 600 elected officials, community leaders and project partners. After successfully completing construction, the Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant has already produced more than 1.5 billion gallons of locally controlled water for San Diego County, helping to minimize the region’s vulnerability to the statewide drought.

Tenth annual Paths to Partnerships Regional Forum scheduled for October 2

The tenth annual Paths to Partnerships Regional Forum will be held October 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center. This year’s event will feature forums on water, wastewater, transportation, development, and how to do business with the state of California. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with key decision makers and industry experts, and receive a two-year look-ahead at upcoming public agency projects. The program will include contractor, consultant, vendor, and public agency exhibits.

The San Diego County Water Authority is urging Governor Schwarzenegger to work with the Legislature to sign a bill that would allocate money from existing, voter-approved bonds for water supply related projects in 2009. The bill is also important as a means to provide a needed and immediate economic stimulus to our state’s economy. SBXX-1 will accomplish this goal.
