Concrete Placement Under Way on Saddle Dam at San Vicente Reservoir
The San Diego County Water Authority’s San Vicente Dam Raise project, the largest water storage project in the region’s history, has reached another important construction phase. Placement of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) is under way to build a new, 650-foot-long, 40-foot-high auxiliary “saddle” dam.

Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to Vote on Rate Increases in April
A day after hearing heartfelt testimony from several dozen speakers from the San Diego region, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Board of Directors today voted to follow its own Administrative Code and vote on adoption of its next two-year budget and rate increases in April. The recommended budget includes two more years of rate increases, “averaging” 7.5 percent for 2013 and another 5 percent in 2014.
San Diego County Water Authority Wetland Creation Project Completed
The San Diego County Water Authority today announced the completion of its first wetland creation project, eight acres at the northeast end of the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve in Encinitas. The project has restored the former wetland, which had been damaged from years of farming and grazing.
Water Authority board approves seawater desalination agreement with Carlsbad
The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today approved an agreement with the city of Carlsbad that defines how the two agencies plan to work together to develop a regional seawater desalination plant at the Encina Power Station in Carlsbad. Last week, the Carlsbad City Council, the Carlsbad Municipal Water District, and the Carlsbad Housing and Redevelopment Commission unanimously approved the agreement.
Water Authority urges region to turn off landscape watering systems for a week
The San Diego County Water Authority is urging residents and businesses to help the region conserve water by turning off their outdoor watering systems today and leaving them off for at least the next week as a storm system moves into the region starting tonight.
Appellate Court to Review Key Pre-Trial Decision in Water Authority Rate Case vs. Metropolitan Water District
Late Thursday afternoon, the First District Court of Appeal issued a preliminary order asking for further briefing on a request by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to prevent discovery in litigation filed by the San Diego County Water Authority challenging its 2011 and 2012 water rates. The court did not grant MWD’s request, or writ petition. It only asked the other parties in the case to set forth their positions on that request.
