San Diego County Water Authority Calls on MWD to Cut Spending and Cap Rate Hikes at 3 Percent
The San Diego County Water Authority has submitted a proposal to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to cap its “average” rate increases for 2013 and 2014 at 3 percent. The rate cap would be accomplished through a $116.5 million budget reduction over the next two years. The recommendations were sent March 21 to MWD’s Board of Directors, which is expected to adopt a two-year budget and two years of rate increases at its April 9 Finance and Insurance Committee meeting and April 10 board meeting.

Water Authority planning repair work in Mission Trails Regional Park
The Water Authority announced today that it is planning repair work on one of its pipelines just north of the San Diego River in a remote section of Mission Trails Regional Park. The purpose of the work is to repair a few 24-foot sections of pipe, which are showing signs of deterioration. Construction is anticipated to begin as early as late January and last approximately one month.
Judge Rejects MWD Efforts to Avoid Discovery in Water Authority Rate Challenge
San Francisco Superior Court Judge Richard A. Kramer today rejected arguments made by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and other Southern California water agencies that they do not have to produce documents to the San Diego County Water Authority disclosing how MWD set its 2011 and 2012 water rates.
Water Authority Voucher Program Provides Financial Incentives for Conservation
The Water Authority is tapping common sense and technology to improve water conservation efforts. The Water Authority’s new conservation program, Smart Landscape, enhances the health and beauty of commercial and residential landscapes. The new program provides financial incentives to residential customers for installing new, self-adjusting, weather-based irrigation controllers. Court Clears the Way for Water Authority’s Lawsuit to Be Heard
San Francisco Superior Court Judge Richard Kramer today ruled that the San Diego County Water Authority’s legal challenge to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s 2011 and 2012 wholesale water rates will move forward, despite another round of pre-trial motions by MWD that sought to dismiss most of the case.
