Three Torrey Pines High School students received recognition from the San Diego County Water Authority at board’s April 22 meeting for their water technology project entries in the 2004 Science and Engineering Fair. Each student received a plaque and a monetary award for his or her project.
Time to turn back the clocks and turn down the sprinkler systems
The days are getting shorter and the weather cooler. Shorter days mean shorter watering times. In the autumn, lawns and gardens throughout the San Diego region need less water. As San Diegans prepare to set their clocks back Oct. 30, the San Diego County Water Authority and local water districts recommend that as customers change their clocks to “fall back” one hour, they also “fall back” on watering times.
Water Authority asks all of San Diego County to ‘Flex your Power AT THE TAP’
The San Diego County Water Authority has issued a request for increased conservation efforts during this current hot spell. Just as we “Flex our Power” to conserve energy, residents and businesses should flex their power at the tap to conserve water over the next two to three weeks.
Higher temperatures mean demand for treated water will also increase. Cooperative conservation efforts by businesses and residents in San Diego County will help manage the availability of treated water supplies during the current hot weather.

San Diego County Water Authority recognizes student Science Fair water projects
Megan Lopez, from the St. Francis of Assisi School in Vista, recently received second place honors from the San Diego County Water Authority for her entry in the 2004 Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. Bernie Rhinerson, chairman of the Water Authority board of directors presented Lopez with a $200 award and plaque at the board’s April 22 meeting for her junior division project entitled, “Conserving Water and Minimizing Nitrogen Pollution.”
San Diego County Water Authority board to appeal preferential rights decision
Vowing to continue its fight to eliminate a system it deems unfair and illegal, the San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today voted to appeal a recent appellate court ruling preserving the Metropolitan Water District's preferential rights process. The board authorized staff to petition a review by the State Supreme Court.
