Water Authority Board Chair Outlines Compromise Terms to Potentially End MWD Litigation

San Diego County Water Authority Board Chair Jim Madaffer today sent a letter to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s Board of Directors that lays out a potential compromise approach by both parties designed to end nearly a decade of litigation over MWD’s rates. Water Authority welcomes release of water transfer DEIR/DEIS

Environmental documents related to the Imperial Irrigation District-San Diego County Water Authority water transfer have been released. The Imperial Irrigation District Water Conservation and Transfer Project Draft Environmental Impact Report/Draft Environmental Impact Statement was released for public review by the IID Jan. 18. “We welcome the release of the document as an opportunity for public discussion and comment,” said Water Authority general manager Maureen A. Stapleton.

Water Authority’s Board of Directors Adopts New Meeting Times

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors has changed its schedule through the end of 2013 to begin committee meetings at 8 a.m. and formal monthly Board meetings as early as 2 p.m. starting on Aug. 22. Both times are an hour earlier than they have been in recent years.

The changes are designed to give the 36-member Board more time to discuss agenda items. The Board’s regular meetings typically are held after a series of committee meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month. Special meetings are scheduled as needed.

Water Authority to return $8.7 million to its member agencies

The San Diego County Water Authority's 23 member agencies will receive part of a refund totaling $8,702,315, the Authority's share of a credit for water rate-overcollections by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The Authority buys as much as 95 percent of the water imported for use in the county from MWD. The Water Authority's board of directors voted today to authorize the agency's general manager to refund the overcollected rates to its member agencies.

Court Sets March Trial Date for Water Authority’s Public Records Lawsuit against Riverside County Water Agency

A Superior Court judge has set March 5, 2014, as the trial date for the San Diego County Water Authority’s lawsuit seeking records about a covert public relations campaign in San Diego County run by the Eastern Municipal Water District on behalf of the Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and its member agencies.

L.H. Woods & Sons Honored for 60 Years of Enhancing Region’s Aqueducts

After 60 years of work to upgrade the regional aqueduct system, Vista-based L.H. Woods & Sons, Inc., was honored by the San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors upon completion of the company’s final project for the agency. On Sept. 27, the Board formally marked the successful conclusion of the $28.6 million Lake Murray to Sweetwater Reservoir pipeline relining project in which Woods reinforced 4.3 miles of large-diameter pipeline to extend its service life by decades. Water Authority Wins 2018 WaterSense Excellence Award

Las Vegas – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today recognized the San Diego County Water Authority with a 2018 WaterSense Excellence Award for advancing water efficiency through its Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) program. The Water Authority received one of 21 WaterSense awards presented at the WaterSmart Innovations Conference in Las Vegas. The QWEL program, created by the Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership and adopted in several states, is certified by EPA to significantly increase water management skills and knowledge among landscape professionals.
