Water-Efficient Landscape Workshops Offered for Industry Professionals
The San Diego County Water Authority and its partners are holding two free water conservation workshops for landscapers, nursery industry professionals, master gardeners, public agency facilities management staff and specialists in related industries on May 13 and 14. The workshops – “Strategies for Water-Efficient Landscapes” – are offered in cooperation with the University of California, Davis, the University of California Cooperative Extension, the SDG&E Energy Innovation Center and others.
Water Authority and SDG&E Streamline Rebate Process for Water-Saving Appliance
As part of the regional response to severe drought conditions, the San Diego County Water Authority and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) have teamed up to streamline the rebate process for qualifying high-efficiency clothes washers. Residents in SDG&E’s service area can now receive two rebates totaling $135 per high-efficiency clothes washer using one application at www.SoCalWaterSmart.com. Previously, customers needed to complete two applications to receive rebates of $85 and $50.
Water-Saving Superstar Promotion Winners Honored
Six San Diego County residents and their families were recognized as Water-Saving Superstars by the San Diego County Water Authority for their efforts to save water inside and outside their homes. Their stories are featured in a series of new online videos posted on the Water Authority’s drought website, whenindrought.org.

San Diego Region Attracts More Than $15 Million for Water Projects
The San Diego region has been awarded more than $15 million in fast-tracked funding by the state Department of Water Resources for a variety of projects aimed at increasing local water supplies and decreasing demands. Together, the projects will produce or save more than 12,000 acre-feet of water annually, enough to serve nearly 25,000 typical four-person homes.
All-American Canal Lining Project reaches critical milestone
The Imperial Irrigation District, San Diego County Water Authority, state Department of Water Resources and Bureau of Reclamation today celebrated the pending completion of the All-American Canal lining project, an innovative and collaborative effort that will play a key role in helping California conserve much-needed water supplies.
“This is a project whose time had clearly come,” said IID General Manager Brian Brady. “The era of limits on the Colorado River imposes new expectations – and responsibilities – on all water users.”
