The San Diego County Water Authority’s Lake Hodges Pumped Storage Project is now fully operational and delivering up to 40 megawatts of electricity to the region, helping San Diego Gas & Electric meet San Diego County’s energy needs in the hot weather of late summer.

Water Authority board approves $1.338 billion budget for fiscal years 2006 and 2007

The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors today approved a $1.338 billion budget for fiscal years 2006 and 2007 that funds the agency’s operations and capital improvements. The Water Authority moved to a multiyear budgeting process for the 2004 and 2005 fiscal years to provide enhanced fiscal management of its many multiyear projects and long-range planning.

Water Authority, City of San Diego Measuring Interest in Potential Renewable Energy-Supporting Pumped Storage Project

The San Diego County Water Authority and the City of San Diego on Wednesday took a step toward the possibility of helping the region meet its future energy needs through a new pumped storage opportunity at the San Vicente Reservoir site. San Diego County Water Authority Wetland Creation Project Completed

The San Diego County Water Authority today announced the completion of its first wetland creation project, eight acres at the northeast end of the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve in Encinitas. The project has restored the former wetland, which had been damaged from years of farming and grazing.

Water Authority approves basic rate increase $5 per acre-foot increase to enhance region’s water reliability

In a move aimed at ensuring a reliable water supply for the San Diego region, the San Diego County Water Authority’s board of directors today voted to increase the basic cost of water to its member agencies by $5 per acre-foot. The rate increase, which will take effect Jan. 1, 2002, was necessary to help fund the Authority’s $1.21 billion Capital Improvement Program. The CIP includes new pipeline projects, pumping facilities and the Emergency Storage Project (ESP).

Water Authority project selected as 2005 ASCE international award finalist

The San Diego County Water Authority’s Olivenhain Dam and Reservoir project has been selected one of five merit finalists in the worldwide 2005 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement competition by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Established in 1960, the OCEA award honors the projects that best illustrate superior civil engineering skills and represent a significant contribution to civil engineering progress and society.

The San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Public Works Association has selected the San Diego County Water Authority's Olivenhain Dam and Reservoir project as its "2003 Project of the Year." The award was presented at the Sept. 9 APWA luncheon in the environmental category for projects over $10 million.

Water Authority board approves capital financing plan for water reliability projects

Taking the next critical step towards water supply diversity and reliability today, the San Diego County Water Authority board of directors approved a long-range financial plan for its Capital Improvement Program. The plan details the revenue necessary to effectively finance regional seawater desalination and water treatment facilities and additional local water storage capacity from fiscal 2005 through 2016.
