Cooler Temperatures, Shorter Days Offer Opportunities to Save Water This Winter

With a water shortage still gripping the region, the San Diego County Water Authority and its 24 member agencies are encouraging residents, businesses and public agencies, as well as gardeners and landscape professionals, to take advantage of seasonal cooler temperatures and shorter days and reduce outdoor watering this winter.

Water Authority Recommends $1.5 Billion Budget for Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017

The San Diego County Water Authority’s general manager on Thursday recommended a $1.5 billion budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017, up 2 percent from the current two-year budget due largely to higher costs for the purchase and treatment of water.

Water Authority Begins Building Tallest Dam Raise in U.S.

Construction is under way for the San Vicente Dam Raise project – the tallest dam raise ever in the United States and a vital component of the San Diego County Water Authority’s long-term plan to improve regional water reliability.

More than 150 local water and business leaders, along with California Secretary for Natural Resources Mike Chrisman, gathered today near the dam site in Lakeside to commemorate the start of construction of the $568 million project. 

Water Authority Reinstates Water Conservation Rebates for Residents

To help more residents prepare for the start of mandatory water use restrictions in many parts of the region, the San Diego County Water Authority is providing $450,000 to reinstate a water conservation rebate program. The rebates will be available now through June 30 or until funding runs out.

All-American Canal Lining Project reaches critical milestone

The Imperial Irrigation District, San Diego County Water Authority, state Department of Water Resources and Bureau of Reclamation today celebrated the pending completion of the All-American Canal lining project, an innovative and collaborative effort that will play a key role in helping California conserve much-needed water supplies.

“This is a project whose time had clearly come,” said IID General Manager Brian Brady. “The era of limits on the Colorado River imposes new expectations – and responsibilities – on all water users.”

Water Authority to Cut Water Deliveries to Local Agencies by 8 Percent

The San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors, responding to reduced water supplies caused by regulatory restrictions on water deliveries from Northern California, lingering drought, and cutbacks from the San Diego region’s main water supplier, today approved cutting water deliveries to its member retail water agencies by eight percent effective July 1.

Water Authority Earns Regional Awards for Construction Projects

Countywide Survey Shows High Levels of Awareness, Support for Water Conservation

A new poll commissioned by the San Diego County Water Authority shows widespread awareness of water supply challenges, strong backing of water conservation measures and mandatory restrictions, and continuing support for developing additional local water supplies. In another key finding, a majority of respondents now favor adding highly treated recycled water to the region’s drinking water supply.
