2020 Annual Report
Covid-19 Response
The Water Authority and its member agencies partnered with the San Diego Food Bank to help deliver thousands of bags filled with food to residents. The bags included information about the safety and reliability of tap water in the region.
Agency Improves Efficiency and Collaboration
After most of the Water Authority’s employees transitioned to remote work in response to the pandemic, General Manager Sandra L. Kerl began several initiatives to keep employees and departments collaborating effectively in remote settings. She hosted meetings each weekday morning for department heads to discuss top issues and next steps, and she launched a series of live weekly calls to address all staff and provide important updates. The live calls included updates about the pandemic and its impact on the water industry, news about ongoing water infrastructure projects, updates about legislative efforts to restore the economy, innovative ideas, diversity and inclusion efforts in the workplace and uplifting topics to boost employee morale. The Human Resources Department also started distributing weekly emails about how to work remotely, stay active and healthy and other resources. Expanding communication throughout the agency allowed the Water Authority to continue operating efficiently to ensure water supply reliability for the region.
