The Board of Directors approved a new, permanent Special Agricultural Water Rate structure to offer lower water rates to farmers in exchange for lower water supply reliability. The new structure helps strengthen the region’s multi-billion dollar agriculture industry.
Water Agencies Help Avoid Tax on Drinking Water
Water agencies across San Diego County and the state worked together to prevent an unprecedented tax on drinking water and ensure funding for clean water in disadvantaged communities. Water industry groups, including the San Diego County Water Authority and several local retail agencies, were among the broad coalition of water, business and civic interests that opposed the tax that had been proposed in Sacramento over the past three years. Rather than adding an unprecedented tax on drinking water, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill providing $130 million annually for the next 10 years to clean up polluted drinking water, mainly in the Central and Salinas valleys.

“This funding is critically important to addressing California’s long-standing safe drinking water issues, and I would like to thank the Legislature for working collaboratively to pass this solution.”
