2020 Annual Report
Covid-19 Response
The Water Authority and its member agencies partnered with the San Diego Food Bank to help deliver thousands of bags filled with food to residents. The bags included information about the safety and reliability of tap water in the region.
New Safety Measures Combat Pandemic
In March 2020, the Water Authority took numerous measures to outfit most of its employees for remote work and prepare its facilities for those whose responsibilities required them to report to the office or be in the field as COVID-19 spread. The agency adopted measures to ensure all employees were safe and accounted for, such as installing a digital check-in and check-out system for staff and visitors at the Kearny Mesa office. New health measures also included a temperature check station outside the headquarters building, mask distribution to all onsite and in-field employees, door handles for bathrooms that are opened by foot to reduce germ transmission, increased cleaning frequency, reminders about social distancing, and counter shields at the front desk. Staff also upgraded filters in building ventilation systems and continued researching how to enhance sanitation procedures and equipment. In addition, the agency's COVID response team developed heightened health and safety protocols, such as staggered shifts or schedules to continue social distancing, for when more employees return to the office.
