Innovation and
Business Services
The Water Authority’s Asset Management team uses innovative technologies like robotic inspection tools within sections of large-diameter pipeline throughout the region to assess pipeline structure and identify where proactive repairs might be needed.
Bright Ideas Continue to Enhance Operations
More than 60 “Bright Ideas” were submitted to the Innovation Program during the fiscal year, continuing the Water Authority’s efforts to harness the innovative power of the organization, develop a culture where all staff see themselves as innovators, build strong external partnerships and provide a conduit for outside vendors to participate. Three “Bright Ideas” emerged as winners for the fiscal year: the creation of the innovative “Mr. T Handle”, the idea to install decals on all Water Authority field locks and the establishment of a program for interagency asset management coordination. The Water Authority also built or continued partnerships with business and water organizations through the Water Research Foundation Innovation Study, Regional Innovation Forum with public agencies and the California Urban Water Association Innovation Committee.
