Water Authority Joins Military & Member Agencies for Jobs Programs

To boost applications for water and wastewater job postings, the Water Authority launched a partnership the Department of Defense’s SkillBridge program, which provides opportunities for service members to gain valuable civilian work experience during the last six months of active duty service. The Water Authority also started working with Hire Military, a company that collaborates with all military branches, and the Department of Defense to screen applicants and conduct outreach about opportunities to facilitate transitions to the private sector. The Water Authority is the first public agency in California to participate in the program and anticipates having the first service member intern begin in late 2020. In addition, a taskforce of general managers from the Water Authority and member agencies led the creation of San Diego Water Works, a regional consortium of water and wastewater agencies collaborating with local educational institutions to improve outreach to fill water industry positions. A primary objective of the taskforce is to recruit and support veterans and transitioning service members through internships and other opportunities or resources.
